My login finally worked tonight. Brandon was telling me about this site and how he wants to get more content on it. I was like, I like writing, so that could be fun. Just blog my experiences from going to the open mics on the site. So he said he would make an account for me. A week later we talked about it some more. Then, the following week, he sent me the username and password. I tried it out, but it didn’t work, so I told him it didn’t work. He said he would fix it. One week later (tonight), he did.
So here I am. Hi, my name is Stephen Ferris. The WAL Tuesday open mic is a cool place to hang out. I like to do a little stand-up comedy, or some version of it, and I’ve been working up the courage to play a song too, because I also like music. Lisa and Benjamin are pretty cool; they work in one of the cafes in the WAL building. I know them because we all went to the same school. Well, Lisa is Benjamin’s mom, and he went to the school. His dad was a teacher there too, but Lisa wasn’t a student. I just felt like I should clarify that, but I don’t know how much it really matters. The other people that work in there are cool too.
Anyway, tonight I was thinking I might play a song, but Brandon didn’t set up the keyboard, so it was really easy for me to get out of it. I think I need more courage. I don’t care that much about doing comedy lately either, so I didn’t bother doing a set at all. Like, if people had prodded me, I would have, but no one did, and it was just kind of a lax time. I got some chamomile tea, and Brandon’s puppy kept trying to chew on me like I was a giant dog toy. I would have picked up this pink rag on the ground if I had thought of it, but this lady picked it up and Brandon ran over and grabbed it with his mouth and started tugging on it, trying to get it away from her. I could see she was freaked out. Just kidding. It was the puppy, not Brandon, and she was having a good time. Eventually she stopped, so I waited a while because I didn’t want her to think I was waiting for her to finish playing with the rag, even though I was, I just didn’t want her to feel pressured, so then after a bit I went and picked it up, and the puppy basically just ripped it to shreds so I had smaller and smaller pieces to play tug-of-war with.
This one guy sang some songs, and he was really good at singing, and playing the guitar and harmonica.
After I left, I went a bought some butter from the food co-op. I really like the Clover brand. I saw two women laugh in a homeless man’s face when he asked for change. He had a pretty cool fort set up on 28th St. I gave him $2.51 and told him I liked his fort. He said thanks and God bless a few times.
Now I’m home and I’ll probably practice my piano, then maybe watch another episode of The People vs OJ. Thanks for reading.
